Biography:
Born in 1997. A 2020 graduate of the University of the Arts (ISA) in Havana, Jorge Amado received the "Golden Degree" honors, as well as the most outstanding student award in both Composition and Violin. As a composer, Jorge has participated in several important Cuban contemporary music festivals, such as the Casa de las Américas Composition Awards, the Havana Contemporary Music Festival, the Havana Chamber Music Festival, and the Música Nova Festival. A member of the Cuban Agency for Musical Copyright (ACDAM) and the General Society of Authors and Publishers (SGAE), Jorge has received numerous awards and recognitions in composition: Musicalia 2015, 2017, and 2018, sponsored by the University of the Arts (ISA); 1st Prize in the 2015 UNEAC “Harold Gramatges” Composition Competition (Cuba); Finalist in the Alfred Schnittke Competition and Composers Forum 2016 (Ukraine); winner of the 8SW Composition Competition Prize, New York, (USA) 2018; winner of the Ojalá Prize for Symphonic Composition 2018 (Cuba); winner of the “Nuestra América” International Composition Competition for String Quartet 2019 (Mexico); and recipient of the 2019 Conmutaciones Grant, sponsored by AHS (Cuba). Jorge's music has been performed in Cuba, the United States, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Costa Rica, and Mexico.
